Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the basis for the way Student Life @ The Beach is designed?
A: We believe strongly in the 52-week local church. We are all active in our local church and believe that the men and women that who attend camp with your groups are called by God to be the Shepherd-leaders of these students. As we designed Student Life @ The Beach, we wanted to do everything we could to support them and what goes on the other 51 weeks of the year. Camp is just one week of the spiritual journey. In order for what we do to be successful, it must support the local church.

Q: What is Student Life @ The Beach like?
A: Worship services and Family Groups make up the most important parts of a day at camp. Worship services include drama by All Things To All People, praise & worship music from some of the best worship leaders in the country, sound biblical teaching from gifted communicators, and opportunities for students from your group to be involved in leading worship. Family Groups are an essential element in the personality of Student Life Camp. Each Family Group is made up of 9-12 students, one or two Student Leaders and one or two Adult Family Group Leaders.

Q: Why do you not hire Staff to teach the Bible Studies?
A:
It goes back to our philosophy of supporting the local church, but also we believe that in order for a small group to be successful, it needs to be small. This allows for good discussion and allows students to feel comfortable in a small group. We also believe it is important for adults from the local church to be involved in what happens at camp. After all, they go home with the students, and this allows friendships, accountability and connection to get on the bus with them as they travel home.

Q: What is a Family Group?
A: A Family Group is about 9 to 12 students coming together under the leadership of an adult leader and a student leader. A Family Group’s purpose is learning about God through Bible study and times of prayer. Students are grouped according to their ages. A Junior Family Group has students from 7th to 9th grade. A Senior Family Group has students from 10th to 12th grade.

Q: How do Family Groups work at the beach?
A: Student Life does not organize a specified time or location for Family Groups. However, we will provide the curriculum to you ahead of time, and we encourage pairing with another church to form Family Groups. We have found that students love Family Group, feel free to decide when and where your Family Groups will take place.

Q: What will Youth Ministers do at camp?
A: Camp is designed for Youth Ministers to be free of a lot of responsibility. This is so Youth Ministers can be available to spend time building relationships with their students. Each morning there will be a prayer and share time for Youth Ministers 15 minutes before morning Celebration. This meeting takes place while your students are getting seated in the Worship Center.

Q: What is the adult to student ratio?
A: One adult for every five students is requested. All condominium options require an adult for every room.

Q: What will adult leaders do at camp?
A: Many adult leaders will be asked to serve as Adult Family Group Leaders. Bible Study materials will be available online before camp to allow adequate time to prepare. Adult Family Group Leaders serve as a motivator and encourager and to lead the Bible Study for their Family Group.

Q: What about sixth graders, are they invited?
A: It is up to each church. If they are normally a part of your group, they are welcome at Student Life @ The Beach.

Q: What is the difference between a graduating 6th grader and a student going into the 6th grade?
A: Student Life @ The Beach is designed for students entering 7th grade up until entering college. Programming is not designed to accommodate students younger than this. If your group is younger you may want to check out Student Life For Kids Camp.

Q: What about children or preschoolers?
A: There will not be any programming or childcare available at camp. However, because many Youth Ministers would like to bring their families to camp, we will do our best to accommodate these situations for Youth Ministers only. Accommodations vary based off camp locations. We cannot guarantee that your family will have a room/condo to themselves.

Q: What is your dress code?
A: At camp we are all a part of an environment where we are trying to remove distractions so that we can concentrate on what God has brought us there to do. Here are some things that we ask you not to bring to camp:
  • Spaghetti strap tops or small tank tops and tight clothes
  • “Short” shorts or skirts (stand with your arms by your side. If your fingertips are touching your skin, your shorts or skirt should be longer.)
  • Bikinis or two-piece bathing suits (unless a tankini that covers your stomach
  • Speedos
  • Clothing with questionable sayings, slogans, etc.
Q: How will my group be housed?
A: Housing Priority is based on the date we receive your deposit. We strive to put each group in the best accommodations available, however, accommodations do vary by location. Check the specific location information to learn more about specific accommodations. Groups will not be housed in the same room as groups from other churches and we do strive to have all churches as close together as possible. Most times we will not know your exact room numbers until you reach your property.

Q: Can spouses room together?
A: We can try to accommodate this only for Youth Ministers only if there is space available in the condo or hotel. We cannot guarantee that you will have a room/condo to yourself.

Q: What are the accommodations for bus drivers who need to stay with us for the entire week of camp?
A: The best option for your bus driver is to have your local church arrange accommodations in a local hotel. In the case that your bus driver is one of your adults, they will be housed within the assigned lodging of your group. In the event that they are not a part of the group, please make lodging arrangements on your own.

Q: If I have a kitchen at my property, how many pots, pans, and place settings will I have?
A:
Dependent upon each property this answer varies. We are unsure of how many of each you will have. If you have any question about it, it would never hurt to bring some extras from home. Please be sure to mark your own though so you make sure to take home only your own. It is also a good idea to bring extra plates, silverware, and napkins.

Q: Do I need to plan on having my own transportation during the camp week?
A: Yes. You will definitely need to have transportation at the beach. You probably will have to drive to the worship center, depending on your location as well. Also, if you want to do activities away from the beach or go out to a local restaurant, your group will need your own means of transportation.

Q: What can we do during free time?
A: Each beach offers a wide variety of activities. Depending on the location, your group can be a part of go-carts, bungee jumping, arcades, bumper boats, water parks, miniature golf, shopping, and jet-ski rentals, just to name a few options. We do not offer organized recreation activities on the beach.

Q: What are Student Life’s theological views
?
A: See “What We Believe” on our home page (www.studentlife.net).

Q: What denomination is Student Life affiliated with?
A: Student Life is an inter-denominational ministry serving the local church. We are not affiliated with one particular denomination. Feel free to contact us if you would like a list of church references.

Q: What are the goals of Student Life events?
A: There are obviously numerous goals with what we do. Ultimately, it comes down to people. Is life change happening in students, adults and us? In scripture, every time someone spent time with Jesus they went away from that experience changed. We hope all of us leave this experience changed. Not because of technical effects, entertaining dramas, or even meeting new people; we are changed because we have been with Jesus.
